It is an honor and great pleasure for me to recognize Dean Louis Goodman today with this honorary diploma.
In 2002 the Director of the Inter-American Defense College asked Dean Goodman to lead an ad-hoc academic board that established a process to modernize the College “in order to project the Inter-American Defense College into the 21st Century, on a firm basis of leadership in matters of Hemispheric Defense and Security.” His efforts led to two important partnerships: the first is with American University; providing IADC students the opportunity to earn a world-class Master's degree through access to critical graduate-level instruction. With this relationship began the College’s commitment to ensuring all IADC students have access to a Master’s Degree option.
The second partnership is with Dean Goodman himself, a longtime friend of the Inter-American Defense College. His association goes back to the mid-1990s when he participated as a guest lecturer and panelist on topics relevant to the Western Hemisphere. His work on behalf of the College has served our institution exceptionally well, and we have made significant progress implementing many of his proposals. Today we are committed to a path of academic excellence that he inspired more than 10 years ago. Therefore, in accordance with our governing regulatory provisions, and with sincere gratitude, we recognize his support by bestowing upon him the Honoris Causa Diploma from the Inter American Defense College.
